the sun inside of her rages like wildfire
She didn’t hear him approach, her mind too caught up and washed away with the wind and the memories, and the strangely warm silver glow of the moon up ahead. She had always considered herself like the moon, aloof, fleeting, beautiful when you stopped and looked. She always thought her brother to be the sun, striking, brilliant, lighting up the world whenever he showed his presence. Her heart ached for him, at the means that he was somewhere else entirely where she was here – her half of his heart, and his half of her heart. Somehow, watching the moon and reminding herself that she was a twin, her other half somewhere out in the world, pained her.

It wasn’t the moon’s fault. It was her own, driving that wedge between them with Ru’in and Kisamoa, and all the nonsense that happened within Helovia before they crossed here. She loved that strange, mutated boy, and Kianzo couldn’t understand it. He wanted her to love him more, and she found it hard to find room in her heart for them both. But of course, she was young and naïve, untested in the way the world worked and how big a heart could be.

Even if she thought she had been built for darkness. And when she lived within it, here in the Rift, she had begun to realize that she was better being the light within it – the moon, a light in the darkness, a pinpoint home to wherever home may be, waxing and waning and pushing and pulling the tide. She hadn’t realized how far her reach could influence, and she was still so young. There was still so much to do.

Couldn’t sleep?” The voice stirred her, knowing exactly who it could have been. Yet she remained still for a few moments, taking in that beautiful voice as his presence stepped beside her. Then, as she cracked her glacial eyes open, the hues softening in the silver of the moon, she looked beside her with a calm smile despite the emotions glimmering beneath the surface of her skin. She looked at Rixen then, from the corner of her eye, the way his blueish hues melded so well with the silver of the moon, and how her own colors were washed out. And she thought about it more, seeing how Rixen seemed to embody the moon far more than she – but it made her think of herself as the sun. The gold lit hues of an early rising sun to the beautiful peacefulness of Rixen’s teal and moon white pelt.

Her heart raced, as she came to the sudden realization, before she nodded slightly to him – somewhat breathless but she couldn’t place why. “Yeah.” She began, angling herself better to look at him and see their similarities and differences. His white melded to a dark tealish blue, with stripes – her black melded to a bright bronze with spots. She would’ve blushed if she could’ve, but instead she shook her head slightly, her crescent shaped horn gesturing to the moon when she was done. “I wanted a better view.” She offered as explanation.

What about you? Couldn’t sleep either?” She tilted her head with the question, a soft smile sticking to her lips – as though her body couldn’t bear to not smile in his presence. What a strange thing it was, this thing between them.

"Talk."
and she is —
gold, gold, gold.
