A wall of muscle and bulk. A stalwart statue and truly the shadow of the man who calls himself Calhoun Ryder. Draped in the palest of tans the muscle and sinew is wrapped rather perfectly, showing every ounce of power and draft lineage that flows so deep through his veins. The beige pelt is broken up by a gradient that flows into a deep, reach earth tone and further made to stand out be silvery stripes that work their way over the other hues. A gentle and rather calm gaze holds patience in the brass pools but something lurks deep beneath still waters. Something very few know of in depth. Intelligence burns in the expression of the stallion and a patient smile fits itself to lips that are rarely parted without reason. The thick flaxen locks that flow from his haunches contrast the shorter ones tipped in just a hint of the same brown that breaks up the monotony of his body. And with some semblance of artistry the massive wings fold themselves to the sides of his bulky frame, feathering shifting in the same breeze that dares rustle the soft down of the extra appeganages.

::MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING! ABUSE! PROCEDE WITH CAUTION!::
On a small island in the Caribbean in the middle of a cold February evening, the boy who would simply be given the name of Arronax was born to two demon parents. His parents were, like almost everyone around them, slaves. Property of a slave-trader and former pirate known as Altos. A man who was both cruel, sick, violent and sexually abusive. To be truthful Arronax’s fate was set the second Altos found out about his mother’s pregnancy. Since starting the camp he had taken to letting his slaves hold relationships for the sole purpose of finding “playthings”. Truly a deranged and twisted fate from the start for the young demon.
Verbal abuse was the first of only a string of escalations and from birth, Arronax was taught, by his so-called master, he was worthless and nothing more than property. An object. The physical and sexual violence picked up around age three and before long he was also being forced into hard labor on the side.
It was nowhere near the life any child should ever know but despite this Arronax seemed to hold an incredible intelligence. Where most children abused at such a young age lacked mental development Arronax quickly exceeded genius level IQ from barely a few months of age and he expanded on this. It became clear he had a creative, unique mind and an incredible memory, eye for detail and ability to learn. To be exact a photographic memory to the point he never forgets something he reads or sees.
This would be a blessing and curse.
He taught himself medical knowledge very quickly not only for himself but because of the other children and even adults in the camp. The abuses they suffered could become incredibly violent and no one truly had the skills to treat the wounds. If nothing else he had a generous and kind soul. Despite the abuse, he did what he could to assist others but as the abuse became more violent, Altos picked up on Arronax’s intelligence and willingness to help others and put himself in the way of others being harmed.
The slaver learned quickly how to manipulate the child. He learned he could do just about anything to him with a threat of hurting someone else if he did not comply. Drugs and alcohol no longer became something the man needed to convince the child to behave and because of his compliance, he quickly became Altos’ favorite toy. Not something you wanted to be in that camp.
Arronax learned to hate two things more than anything else, tight spaces and being tied up with rope or material he could not use his physical or species related abilities to break or shatter. He would later develop phobia around both these things. He might have very well gone on to be abused and violated for years however on a night when Altos chose another play to, a close friend of Arronax and a younger child that he protected like he was his big brother, and killed him in a rage he refused to listen to orders Arronax began to realize a few pieces of information that would lead to a choice to make an escape attempt.
The first of these was if he were to ever refuse to comply there was without a doubt in Arronax’s mind because of Altos’ favoritism towards him the rage he would be on the receiving end of would be far worse. Torture would perhaps be a kinder fate in the end. Death would be the result but not before Altos could brutalize him and torture him as much as he possibly could while keeping him alive and aware of his pain. Others included the fact he might not even have to anger Altos to be killed, even if by mistake and the longer he stayed the longer this camp continued to prosper. For if no one attempted to escape and then attempt returning to make the attempt to rescue those inside the fates of all would be sealed for as long as Altos lived on. Truly, Arronax saw only one choice and so, biding his time, he began to plot an escape.
It was two years to the day that he buried his friend that he made his move. Arronax was a mere twelve years of age at the time but the planning, waiting and hard work paid off. It was Altos who was drugged this time, slipped a dose of opium, one high enough to knock him out before Arronax took the chance to run. And he managed to escape. He found his way off the island and onto another and for a year survived by himself, a whole year in the wilderness before a man by the name of Edward Teach found him.
He was a demon himself, a pirate Captain of fame beyond measure, feared and respected and a former slave of Altos as well. Arronax by then had hardened his own nature, though tormented deeply by everything he’d been through, and he fought at first. Teach saw a chance to turn something that was raw and untapped potential into a worthwhile pirate. And with a little work convinced Arronax to join his crew.
It would be a full year before Teach would learn of Arronax’s former life but when he did he revealed his own link to Altos. Arronax was fifteen when the men began plotting to take the camp and free those inside. At least, that was the plan at first. Teach however became more polluted and twisted over the years. His mind darkened with greed and power and a bloodlust that could not die. Once a friend and role model to Arronax, Teach quickly became just another monster in his life.
But he stayed on.
Piracy had become the only way he knew how to survive at that point. Not only was he a killer thanks to Teach’s ruthless tutelage but he also had the opportunity to make something of himself and could use his skills for helping the crew after a battle as well. The plan however had changed. Teach lost interest in seeking out Altos and in time Arronax accepted it would never happen. It was an attack on a Navy ship left by Teach that found another soul touched by Altos’s violent nature
It would be there they met a youth by the name of Calhoun Ryder.
Like Arronax and Teach, he was a slave. However, to his credit, he was by far not one who just let himself get pushed around. In the chaos of the attack, Ryder saw the opportunity of a lifetime and while pirates were closing in Ryder killed every last soul on the Navy vessel he had been press ganged into joining. But the crew of the Queen Anne‘s Revenge had far too many men who were trained in combat for Ryder to even hope to win against, especially given Ryder’s size and inexperience in combat. But he seemed determined and seemed set that he was going to go down fighting even if it meant his death.
And once more Teach was potential.
And this time Teach was looking for someone far more ruthless. Someone he could twist into violence and brutality far beyond what he had ever attempted teaching Arronax. But the boy was by far from willing come quietly. It took knocking him out cold and throwing him into the brig and then after days of Teach trying to break the boy it took Arronax speaking with the youth and truly explaining the situation before they could crack through his rage and anger. And that was when he quickly picked up what he had now was freedom and it was not something Ryder would squander.
During the time they sailed on the Queen Anne, Arronax and Ryder became quick and firm friends. Lifelong ones. And in time the youth went from cabin boy to the youngest Quartermaster to ever sail for Teach. Years would pass and after trouble of his own Ryder left the crew to sail on his own. And Arronax saw this as his cue to take his own leave. He parted ways, and not on good terms with Teach. But in time he heard of the rumors of Ryder’s actions and knew Ryder would need his help. Arronax found is way back to Nassau and signed himself on as the carpenter aboard the ranger. His skills over the years having grown vastly and due to Ryder’s trust of the man it was not long before he was providing him counsel as well as caring for The Ranger and any havoc Ryder wreaked upon his ship in battle or foolish choice.
However that didn't stop what happened that brought him to this world. And he's hoping he is not without his mate and lover for long.
