The Metus remained staring at the wall for what seemed like a lifetime before the voices reached him. The first voice to speak was the child that he had met twice before and been taunted by. A gruff sigh slithered through his circular lips as she spoke to him. She spoke of giving him a ball of hope and he nearly laughed at the idea. He scented the dragon-like man as well as a few that were unknown to him. His lips twitched slightly as he inhaled to speak again. “The dragon tried to gift it to me before.” He announced, tiredly lifting his large claw to point in the general direction he scented the creatures in.
But after a few moments, and her explanation, he shook his head slightly. “Do not return. Your scent has kept my food from approaching.” He added in, a snark little quip to his voice as he moved to stand. As he did so, a sound of an owl approaching with a trill caught his attention. Immediately, he tilted his head toward the creature, feeling the thump of something landing on the earth.
His predator instincts took over as his clawed hand reached out and snatched the wounded mouse, lifting it to his circular jaw and swallowing it still half alive. It helped little to quench his thirst, but he still managed a small nod to the direction of Otem before he turned to face them all. Waker spoke, and to it he laughed a hissing sound, his tongue extending and lashing out briefly. “Simply starving.” He growled, his hands clenching and releasing at his sides.
Suddenly, the Metus got an idea. Blindly, he reached out snatching an orb from those gathered. It split in his hand and continued to send him that strange warm feeling of joy. His papery-thin skin shuddered with the feeling, but there was no going back now. He lifted his hand to his snout and swallowed the orb whole. After a few moments, and a couple hiccups from the orb refusing to go down, he sunk to the ground again, his lips forming a strange smile as he began to glow.
“Thank you.” He offered them, looking positively comfy and glowing in the dark light, content to lay on the stone floor and stare at nothing but enjoy the feeling that swelled in his stomach.
“Talk.”
