Erebos
There was nothing again – the aftermath strained over a couple of snakes curling through his beard – the echoes, the throngs, of piercing ghosts sliding away. It was as if naught had happened at all, and the only consequences of their horrors, of their traumas, of their anguish, were the bitter plumes of dying fog. He stopped laughing, staring at the ground, at the dissipating edges and fringes of sorrow, of melancholy; and wondered how they’d gotten here, so very far from the world they used to know. Helovia had its own sources of despair and treachery, but this place seemed to be one demanding, unrelenting, iniquitous battle after another. It’d been lined in brutality, in wolfish, predacious lunges and harpoons; as if the very earth knew exactly how they interacted, functioned, and thought. How did one combat an empire that could read into their very souls?
The shadows drummed along his eyes, and he glanced into the threads and seams of darkness; conspiring once more – pondering how one could fight the malice and menace from within. With more? With less? With the same remorseless force shown and savaged upon them?
The considerations coiled within his mind, trapped there in the hissing sounds, in the sibilance, in the cauldron of brewing contortions. The warrior pressed back into the void, disappearing from whence he’d come, determined not to fall apart so easily (not again, not ever again), when the snares were drawn, when the kingdom saw his weaknesses, drew his flaws. It was another promise yet to be fulfilled.
