Stealing is due for an overhaul, but we're awaiting the results of the survey before tackling it.
Stealing
- Within the Rift, characters may steal items or characters (if you would like to steal something else, please PM admin to see if it is feasible).
- Any age may attempt to steal; however, less than 2 years of age will result in -5 to detection and success rolls (exempting the target's success roll).
- A thief must wait 1 week between posting stealth attempts.
- A character must have 'seen' (i.e. threaded with) or have heard of the item/character they are stealing.
- For item stealth, a detection roll will dictate how much the target knows of the thief. Alternatively, they may see the thief with their item ICly in a subsequent thread.
- Each character has a single ‘safe slot’ for items, meaning that an item in that slot may not be stolen. Additional safe slots are earned per 100 RF.
- A character/player on 'Away' may not be stolen from.
- If a character goes on "Away" during a stealth, then they have 1 week of "Away" grace time before it defaults.
- Newcomers may not steal or be stolen from.
- There are two stealth options in the Rift (see below). The success of each is determined by a series of dice rolls and posts.
- Hoarding many items will make it easier to be stolen from.
Note: Only enchanted items count towards this tally.- Possessing 4-6 items results in -1 from target's roll.
- Possessing 7-9 items results in -2 from target's roll.
- Possessing 10-12 items results in -3 from target;s roll.
- Rift Force for stealing is automatically added by admin (you do not need to claim it).
Thread Option
- A thief may make a post with less than 500 words of however they intend to sneak up and steal the sought after item/character.
- The thief must tag their target.
- This post must be in a board the target has previously been in (accessed via target's Threadlog).
- A Success Roll is rolled with dice to determine if thief is successful with stealth.
- A d20 is rolled for thief and target.
- If the thief's roll is higher, then the stealth is successful.
- If the target's roll is higher, then the stealth is not successful.
- The thief posts again with less than 500 words and within 48 hours, incorporating the rolls into their success or failure in stealing item/character.
- Failing to post within 48 hours results in auto-fail of stealth and auto-detection by target (regardless of rolls).
- This results in a default stealth.
- A Detection Roll is rolled with dice to determine if or how much of the thief is detected by the target.
- A d20 is rolled for thief and target.
- If the thief's roll is higher, then the thief is undetected.
- If the target's roll is higher, then the thief's roll determines level of detection:
- Thief's d20 = 0-5, target fully detects thief.
- Thief's d20 = 6-10, target detects 2 large details of thief.
- Thief's d20 = 11-15, target detects 2 small details of thief.
- Thief's d20 = 16-20, thief is undetected.
- The target posts with less than 500 words and within 48 hours.
- Failing to post within 48 hours results in auto-success of stealth and no detection of thief (regardless of rolls).
- This results in a default stealth.
Sample Thread Stealth:
- Thief Post #1: Barbara sneaks through the Rainforest Cliffs, sighting the magical mirror she had seen with Tom's belongings during their fight. She warily approaches, seeking to take the magical mirror for herself.
- Success Roll:
Barbara: d20 = 15
Tom: d20 = 10
15 > 10, so the stealth is successful! - Thief Post #2: Barbara is beside herself with glee! The mirror is hers, all hers! She cackles carelessly to herself in the darkness.
- Detection Roll:
Barbara: d20 = 2
Tom: d20 = 9
2 < 9, so the thief is caught!
Thief's d20 = 0-5, so the target fully detects the thief! - Target's Post: Tom snarls into the darkness, angry at the loss of his magical mirror that makes him so handsome. Barbara will pay for this!
