Aquila does not have a coat, but instead her skin is pebbled and stretched over bony plates (like a seahorse). Though she is not tied to water, her skin becomes dry, dull, and faded the longer she spends away from moisture. The base of her skin is a sand color. Stripes of electric aqua run through her coat, surrounded by irregular, dark mocha pigment. The brown turns black and the aqua darkens and glows in the face of extreme emotion. In place of a mane, rounded bony plates sprout from her crest and extend down the front over her face in place of a forelock. Gills form pits on her shoulders, and she may use them when she is swimming, but she also may breath normally on land. Her tail is leonine and the end is covered in a cluster of dark brown barbs. Her dark brown hooves are cloven and webbed. Her horn is slightly curved with a blade edge and is made of aquamarine. Her eyes are quite large and are also aquamarine, but have bright yellow ringing the iris, and she rarely ever blinks. Sharp fins emerge from where her head meets her neck. Aqua & dark brown ring form circles around her eyes. The colors also stripe on along each side of her nasal bone and cheeks, much like warpaint. Her teeth are also sharper than the average equine, and she often enjoys fish in addition to greens for food.
Due to a her family’s legacy and her natural inclination for the art of war, she quickly rose through the ranks and became a trusted advisor to the Akvian Council. Though their culture had negotiated peace with most of his neighbors and conquered lands, the nearby culture of Yothea desired the wealth and prosperity Akvo had attained.
The Yothean priest and king- in a jealous and desperate act- made a deal with Vjanta, a great and terrible demigod of destruction. In exchange for riches and wealth of Akvo, the Yotheans would worship and sacrifice only to Vjanta. Thus, Vjanta sent a great and terrible wave of destruction to Akvo, using the very sea they loved and relied on to destroy them. Terrible surges, giant waves, and ferocious cyclones began to assault and kill mares, stallions, and foals.
The Akvian deities tried to protect their people, but they were no match for Vjanta- who was empowered by the worshipping of the entire Yothean culture. Their deities did manage to save a small portion of their city, fending off the onslaught long enough for the Council to send Aquila and her cousin, Rohkea, out to find either help or sanctuary. Though, as they escaped, Vjanta caught them and separated her from her cousin.
So she fled, becoming embroiled in a war against Vjanta waged by Helovians in the Riptide Isles. Though Vjanta was vanquished, she was still seperated from her entire culture with the closing of the Rift.
Orangemoon brings her back to Isles (finding Helovia not as habitable for her people as she had hoped). Upon her return, she joins a crowd of Helovians playing with dolphins and otters in a magical drop. Failing to obtain the orb, she lingers in the Isles, searching for a way to find a way to her people in the Rift; though instead she finds Darwin and his companion, and she is as close to 'friendly' as she ever comes with these two winged creatures.
The warming of Birdsong brings her to battle a behemoth in an effort to alleviate her aching failure to her people. Losing the spar, the man (Volterra) tells her about the Gods and how they had endowed him with magic that he used in their spar. He offers to show her the God's place at a later date. The mare then blocks an old stallion trying to capture her, accosting him in the Deep forest when his sight-stealing magic falters. Seeing her injuries still fresh from the fight, he offers her a home and healing in the hidden falls, and she chooses to join. A dark day in the Deep Forest brings strange bones that cause the mare to relive the pain and loss of her people. Both she and Kahelo (Milo) destroy their bones, leaving them with terrible headaches. Seeking to feel useful, she spars her first pegasus and wins. She then turns to her other duties for the Falls: patrolling the meadow, where she comes across a man and nearly kills his dragon-snake companion.
Tallsun finally brings her back to Volterra, taking him up on his offer to take her to the Veins of the Gods; but the trip is a devastating one as the Gods ignore her pleas to bring the Akvo people from the Rift and to Helovia, leaving her utterly lost and alone. Listless, she tries to help a young moose return to its family on her way back to the Falls, but fades into unimportance as the others help the young creature. Once back in her herdlands, she unwilling heeds the Earth God's beckon and then attends a herd meeting, warily realizing the large number of winged creatures in the Falls but still joining the Warrior Ranks.
Orangemoon brings her to a man from the Rift as she seeks distance from all the pegasus in the Falls. And, turning south, new creature emerging from the depths of the Riptide Isles, rekindling her hope for reuniting with the Akvo people. She recruits a member for the Hidden Falls as well, now having a renewed hope for life. She joins a crowd around a strange demon, receiving a vial of green goo. Returning to the ocean she does not realize it, but she has begun to form feelings for Kisamoa, and becomes uneasy when watching him with the Moon Goddess.
Birdsong finds the mare diving deep into the sea, searching for any hint of an opening to the Rift since Kaos had come through it.
Tallsun comes, and Aquila returns to the surface with an egg she found in the deep, where Akvo had been in the Rift. The egg hatches, and she names her new companion Craonos.
Come Orangemoon, she is pushed through the Portal and into the Rift.
Dam: Decanda
Craonos is a narwhal leviathan, smooth body mottled with striking charcoal and ivory skin. A long, aquamarine-tinged ivory tusk sprouts from his mouth, and dark charcoal eyes quietly survey the world. Bright aquamarine symbols glow along his back, that mean “the sea” in Akvian. Both stern and commanding, Craonos is more than able to defend both himself and Aquila. However, where his bonded is quick to offend and dismiss others, Craonos is more observant and a deep thinker. His dark, soulful eyes watch others closely, picking up on cues that Aquila may miss.

Aquila lays egg capsules (example) rather than give live birth. These capsules require salt water (not fresh water) upon delivery in order to sustain the foal inside and allow for emergence through the capsule.
Aquila does not trust winged creatures, due to them being her natural predators in the Rift/Akvo.
Aquila's blood is blue. Literally.
Akvians (and thus Aquila) do not cry. (They live underwater, so tears are useless).
Akvian language is actually Esperanto (with a little Atlantean thrown in).
