Does Moonlight Even Shine Here?

Without Ki’irha encouraging him forward, biting at him to drive him into the portal, Mesec truly wasn’t sure if he would have gone. The twisting, confusing mess that summed up the trip into the new world was a welcomed distraction and relief. The sick feeling in his gut as he got tossed and jolted through before landing on the other side was bliss compared to what he had been experiencing.

Or maybe he was feeling sick because every time he closed his eyes, he saw someone else he loved explode in light and smoke.

Lyra was with him, whining softly as she scrambled onto his back - using her teeth and claws to scratch at her skin at some phantom itch that was burning her skin. He cast his mind out for Lucius, but felt nothing - a hollow hole where his bond with the zephyr had been.

Mesec’s breathing started to grow ragged, his heartbeat so loud and consuming he feared he was going deaf. He felt like he was dying.

It was only when he heard a familiar voice call out his name that he started to catch his breath - only when she called out the name of their daughter that his head stopped swimming and he was able to focus. “Ki’irha!”

He hurried over to the star-lit mare, noting that she shone a little brighter here than she had in Helovia, and he didn’t stop until his neck was wrapped around hers. “I’m glad you’re safe.” He whispered the words into her neck, clinging to this small mercy. The rest of his family had to be okay, they must have made it through. Virga could still find them - he had faith in their son, that they might be reunited in this strange place.

Weirder things have happened.

Pulling away from Ki’irha, he answered the questioned posed by the colt - trying not to drown in the realization that this was likely his nephew, the last piece of Sacre to survive. “She was near us when we went through… We can help you look for her while we look for our daughter.” Of course, Mesec wanted to look for Tandavi too - to make sure she and their twins got through - but his mind was still reeling from everything he didn’t even think to mention it just yet. “I’m Mesec.” He offered, unsure of whether the boy knew who he was or if it had been complete coincidence that had caused them to drift over this way.

Requests: I wouldn’t be opposed to the rift shrouding Mesec’s heart in darkness/shadows (could even be a corruption of his passive healing magic? his heart is pretty broken right now and could use some healing and/or could be the effects of the removal of his divine blood). Rift can take out some revenge on Moony on him for being her son/he helped her kill the wolf god!
