The Portal
She gives in to the darkness - her veins were like icy webs as the blood in her body tingles and itches through her skin like spiders. In that moment nothing felt natural, she might as well be caught, captive, in a giant bubble while pink and blue elephants are playing shrieking violins as they danced around her multiple reflections, snares breaking with high pitched tunes. If her eyes hadn’t been instinctively closed from the heavy dragging sensation of time and space, tugging from every inch of her existence, she could have seen what was the truth and what was not.
At last the darkness sighs and lets her go. She sees again when she opens her smoldering eyes: bright sweet peaches with fear fueled anger. She falls down on the ground that she hadn’t really left in the first place, but collapses into a puddle of hide and limbs nonetheless. Her muscles are sore, her ears ring and her head still tingles from the spiders that have infested the ruins of her being.
She looks around, afraid.
Something had changed within her, was devouring her from the inside; sizzling, smoking, burning. Why did her magic feel so estranged? The more she felt the hollow growth echoing within her fear, the angrier her blood screamed as it surged through her veins as if looking for an escape. She screams - there is no way out - knows in this world she is and will be but a mere fly. Ruthless that it is, helpless is she and this time there won't be escaping a web composed of the unknown.
Maybe if she could just breathe.
