It was pride that turned angels into devils

The many thousand strong swarm, like an ominous bronze cloud beneath the gravity-stricken stallion’s barrel, gathered together at the will of their owner and drove their fierce formation back towards the sky. Zahra followed at a huge rate of knots, with stunning wingspan veering, dipping, thrusting, and primaries feather’s glistened and shone with all of the visual vibrancy of the four lost, Helovian gods. Her thoughts, though frayed by terror, were centred studiously on the use of her power to manipulate and wield the humming insects and while the streaking copper-coat below snatched her eye, she could spare it no attention; could not break concentration. 

The sound of her own desperate shouting rang in her ears long after clarity of the voice had withered away, fuelling the rise of dread through her trembling core. 

The blur of movement quickly transformed into the winged figure of a yearling-sized horse, and the fretting girl realised that his motivation was to aid. All at once, as he paused aloft, the overwhelming sensation of relief flooded through her and so lightened did she feel that some lucidity returned to her mind; in fact, it was the nature of the magic, that the other pegasus used, which more or less nullified her own. In rapid succession, her locusts dehydrated midair and began, spontaneously to combust as bursting firelights in the dreary, Drench sky. Quickly the truth occurred to her, and though at first, she began to panic, it quickly became apparent that the other was using magic that was working!

Eleos’s fall began to slow, enough at least to soften the horrific blow of his body slamming into the earth. Zahra too collided down beside him with knees forced to fold, jarring, and flared wings barely catching the onslaught of her oncoming weight; but he’d survived! 

"Oh thank you!" Golden eyes danced heavenward, beckoning the yearling down. "Thank you so much, you saved my Da…" Plush maw delved frantically into the motionless ebon contours of the slumped stallion, realising the life therein; the warmth and the slow, shallow breath hidden beneath his strewn feather. She set about realigning the appendage (perhaps for her own comfort more than his), before turning to Iskara with warmth and gratitude pooling through her expression. "I am indebted to you." Perhaps if the younger couldn’t stay - for others already were moving off - she would find him soon after in this fluorescent world of perils and thank him properly in gift.
