She had wandered, there didn’t really seem to be much else to do - she was looking for her friends, of course, not so much seeking to explore this strange new place that they had found themselves in. And walking seemed to be the only way she could feel comfortable. Not only was she about to burst with this pregnancy but her neck and the backs of her legs were itchy. The ceaseless rain did not do anything to help - it neatly washed off anything she applied to sooth the itch.

What she didn’t expect was to recognize a scent on the air as she wandered, to feel a pull on her heart that went back to when she was a filly. She actually gasped when she first caught the scent - knowing it so well, but having forgotten it after living in Helovia for so long.

So she followed it and didn’t believe her eyes when she was standing there, in the forest of her childhood.

It was here. How could that be?

Did that mean somewhere among these brightly coloured trees and ferns her parents might be here?

A muzzle pressed gently into the bark of the first dragonfly willow she could reach, her green eyes - the green of this forest - closing as sobs shook her body. Tears she couldn’t quite explain overtook her and she forgot for a moment what she had been wandering for, forgot her quest to find as many of her friends as possible. It wasn’t until a sharp pain woke her from her daydreaming that she knew she couldn’t just stand here, lost in memories.

Her childhood was here, within her grasp, but another childhood was about to begin.

Beneath the bows of a large dragonfly willow, she laid down to give birth - she didn’t expect to be alone for long, her family was strong and close. All of the fear and uncertainty that had plagued her with Zoeya’s birth was dimmed now - it seemed impossible to give into it in such a bright forest. The bright sun flowers bloomed in the grass, shining with such intensity that Alysanne forgot that it was past midnight. Even the rain had lightened up somewhat, just a soft patter on the leaves above her head.

Whether it was the comforting scenery, or something else that has changed, but this birth came easier than Zoeya’s. Though tears still fell and soaked the ground beneath her, they were a strange combination of grief and joy. Miykael wasn’t here but she was home. The Edge had been her home for so long, but this place was so much more than that cliffside forest. This hadn’t been where she took her first steps but it had been where she had first met her father, where she had learned from him and discovered a love for nature so instinctual that it would never fade.

It seemed right, she supposed, that she would return here with a coat similar to that of her father’s.

In a short amount of time, it was over and Alysanne was scrambling to her feet, turning to see the pale grey, beautiful colt that lay there. Though the sadness remained in her heart, the smile that shone in her eyes dried the tears and she moved closer to clean him, to nuzzle him and take in the scent of her youngest child. “Mika.” She breathed his name into his neck. “My beautiful son.”
