Ramblers in the wilderness

The entire world seem to shake with thunder. Does this creature think that, simply because he is airborne, that he is safe from the shadows?

They leap up from the gnarled limbs, engulfing him in their greed. In, deep, they reach with their spears of sharp darkness. They twist, steal, take. They are hungry.

And then they leave, off to find another soul to feed from.
