Sheba
The swim across the channel had been brief and uneventful—in short, as good as Sheba could have hoped for. Since seeing the island from the far shore, she had desired to go there. The possibility of a place to herself never lost its appeal, and the island’s isolation held too much potential to ignore for long. She had set out at low tide, wary of rip currents, but there had been none, and now she was clambering onto the shore with saltwater dripping from her coat. Minou stumbled after her, panting with exertion. The swim had not been so effortless for the little ocelot, but Sheba did not much care--especially now that his emotions were muted through their bond.
In high spirits from her easy journey, Sheba cast a glance around and headed for the shade of the trees. She did not venture into the thicker foliage quite yet, deciding instead to get her bearings before prancing into the jungle. Still, the place seemed harmless enough in the daylight, with only the lazy buzz of insects and the crashing of the waves on the sand to disturb the silence.
Having worked up an appetite after her excursion, she chanced some of the grass that grew along the edge of the treeline. She had stayed away from most everything else, but the most basic staple of her diet here had had no adverse effects thus far. If she was slowly poisoning herself, she supposed it was too late anyway.
