Kaos reigned— so similar to how it was during the Fall. Only, then, he had been an angry, vengeful soul bent on destruction (and survival). Now, the great Elephant was a hurting soul bent on ensuring the survival of his family. So he did was he had done before: he fought. Or, at least, he tried to; he fought until he began to see those around him fall. He found until he saw the shadows take a spotted hide he never thought to see again; he fought until the shadows licked his own scarred hide—and then a cowardice rose in him.
Not a cowardice of pure selfishness; only partial. For the great man had stripped himself of a Kingship to be with his family; and he wanted to see his foals grow. He wanted to see Kiada find a love like he shared with Rexanna; he wanted to see Kianzo draw his first blood in battle. He wanted to see Safiri overcome the weak heart his own lineage had given her. He wished to salvage whatever relationship he could with Zubari. He needed to teach Katua all about her hippopotamus companion.
And, as he saw the swish a gold through the Portal—he wanted to see his love again. To know why and how she had given up them for a red, winged stallion in the Edge.
So the giant man shoveled his broad chest into his wayward, ashen son—Kianzo was searching (he assumed) for Kiada; but the Elephant had already seen her vanish into the shadows.
Thus, with blood streaming from many cuts the shadows had sliced into his pale, buckskin hide, the man crashed through the living shades. Navy eyes wide and trying to pierce this poorly-lit new world, his mind shut out the waves of shock and grief for all those bodies left in the collapsing world of Helovia.
There was no time for that, now. Instead, he focused on finding those warm bodies still alive and breathing that preceded him in the Rift.
Though he saw none, only the gold flash of a tripping, stumbling Kianzo he had shoved from Helovia. "Are you alright?” was his deep rumble, great head held high and sweeping to and fro in the darkness, trying to find his family.
