Outsiders

Thick, dark spears of trees strike out from the ground; those the giants were dying, rotting from the inside out as their magic hearts succumbed to darkness and beat black, tarry blood through their great leaves. This dark sap bled from too-wet drunks; tears drowning in the forever onslaught of ominous wetness that rained from muted, sunless skies.

Blue light bathes these ancient giant’s weeping; it sweeps along the selfish vines that seek only to wrap their stretching lengths around all this new life.

But the giants remain still; quiet titans in the face of death and even in the face of the wild, feral, vicious strikes the land made on these new souls. They would wait, as they always did; waiting to pass judgement on the hope this promised.
