His body was still quite battered from his fight with Ricochet. The burns on his forelegs and belly itched and hurt constantly. the price of healing and moving around. As the skin stretched and flexed over muscle it ripped and flaked away. Leaving open sores that oozed blood. He did his best to keep herbal mixtures slathered all over them, but the rain was constantly washing it off. Plus, how the heck was he supposed to reach his belly? To make matter worse his side still flared with pain with each breath. He had to take it easy or risk infurating the internal injury. Ruwin did not like to take it easy. He continued to push through te pain like a stubborn brute. He was even dumb enough to climb the summit, seeking the cool waters of the lake to soak his burns in.
The Watcher had been recovering from his climb (shh no one has to know), when a familiar scent touched his nose. It wafted through the rain, teasing his nostrils and causing his head to raise ears swiveling forward atop his head. Aurelia? Ignoring how his body continued to protest his careless treatment of it, the stallion followed the scent. He hardly recognized the fiery mare when she came into view. Thin, burnt, and haggard by life she was a far cry from the pregnant feisty woman he had met previously. An air of angry hung around her like a black storm cloud. Something within her had changed, her eyes were no longer that of the mare he had met before. He moved slowly towards her. Well aware of the fire she was capable of summoning. Though he wondered if it would be difficult to bring that fire to life in such wet weather. He was not interested in testing that, having had enough of fire and magma for a while. Coming to stand parallel with her, though still keeping his distance should she lash out he lowered his head. He surveyed her with a sideways glance. His icy blue eyes aiming to catch her gaze as he spoke. "Aurelia?" A simple word, but full of so much. His eyes expressed the same question. Where had she been, what had happened to her? Where was her child. This last one he bit back. She was already frail enough, appearing haunted by something. He knew not what it was, but the mention of her child could easily tip her over the edge. instead he opted not to say anything. Waiting until she acknowledged his presence before going further. talk talk talk talk Watcher I'm sorry if you don't like my honest. if asked whether or not he cared to understand all that was Aurelia, he'd say no. He already understood enough. Understood that she was a multi layered mare with different levels and facets. He need not understand every aspect of her or know her past. He didn't care about past but present anyways. How could one truly understand someone anyways? He knew her so little to begin with. The way she treated him, the genuine unrestrained personality, was what held her in a more positive light in his eyes. She did not fake, or pretend. She was purely herself. Unpredictable, unapologetic, genuine in the fact that she was indeed not alright or perfectly there.
He didn't have to go through the trouble of trying to figure out her intentions or the real creature that lay beneath. Because it was always on display whenever he was around her. Perhaps not every side of her personality was seen, but each one shown to him was just as much Aurelia as the last. She was a curious creature and his mind did naturally seek to understand her, but at the same time it did not feel frustration when he didn't. Because that was simply her and he had so little experience in the ways of this mare. So when she clucked he merely walked after her, remaining at the same distance. For she was on a different part of who she was today, a darker more unhinged side. "Luckily I am not a cat." He said, his tone as unreadable as ever. Curiosity was healthy, when caution was also used alongside it. It was why he remained out of her reach, a respectful distance. For he had not seen this side of Aurelia, though the other side he knew had charged him while on fire during their previous encounter. Needless to say he wasn't going to let this girl do the same. Somehow he knew that if she did she wouldn't stop and apologize. When she whirled around to face him, he stopped, face and placid as ever. "You've not faired much better yourself." he replied, never one to lie. She looked terrible. Haggard and travel worn. Course, he didn't look all that pretty either so he took no offense. Though had he ever really been offended by anyone? "Looks like the Rift has enjoyed chewing on the both of us." He hoped that they gave it indigestion for all of the trouble he had to go through. Aurelia certainly looked like she had been through a lot as well. He still did not ask about her daughter as he tested the waters to see how far Aurelia had fallen into this dark state. talk talk talk talk Watcher I'm sorry if you don't like my honest. She was fire. Explosive destruction that decimated everything in its wake. He, a massive river of fathomless depths. Calm, deceptively so. Upon his surface he appeared to be nothing more than a lazy, slow moving river. Constant, untouchable. It was only those that were foolish enough to venture into his presence, to step into the water, that knew of the true terror of a deep river. For though calm and serene on the surface, the waters moved swiftly beneath. Dark, relentless, unforgiven as it sucks you below the surface. Swallowing you within its depths where you would never return. She was fire, he water.
Would those flames be able to dry up the river as it sought to exit beside it? Or would they find a strange balance like they had before. He did not seek to temper her heat, to tame the flames that burned within her. For her beauty was not in a fire within a hearth, but a raging forest fire that burned out of control. All the while the river remained, continually flowing as the world burned around it. Just as he did not desire her to attempt to dam him, to redirect his flow, he would not try to put out her flames. He watched this new Aurelia as she gave him a displeased look. The warning was all too clear, still he did not flinch or shy away. He had plenty of room to react if she did attack. He didn't draw closer or speak. Didn't seek to defend himself. He was an honest creature. He would not say what he did not mean. She looked like crap, he couldn't deny that. Though even dying embers held a certain beauty about them. Ice blue eyes watched her, waited for her to speak or attack. But she merely turned and walked off. Most certainly a different side of the mare. She reacted and behaved entirely different. She was more closed off, in a way. Like a container that was building pressure before it exploded. He would continue to give her a wide birth. He had no intention of being caught up in that explosion when it happened. Her words drifted back to him and he smirked. Letting out a heavy breath. He could lie, put up airs or act tough. But he didn't. She had pegged him. Had he truly been so easy to read? That certainly did not happen often. Though he took little pleasure in admitting that he was indeed beaten, he felt a certain level of comfort around the mare that so many would be thrown off balance by. "A cocky native who summons magma." He said as he came to stand at the edge of the lake. Far off to her right. He watched her out of the side of his vision as he looked out over the waters. "If he survives his wounds, he won't win again." Odd, hearing the normally placid man speaking of settling a score with another. His encounter with Rico had lit a fire of his own within the stallion. He had never been allowed to lose before, as such it did not sit well with him. The dark colored stallion would not be allowed to enjoy his victory for long. The time would come when they'd fight again. Ruwin had no intention of losing the next time they met. Not after he gained the power he sought. "And what of you?" He asked, still giving her a sideways glance. "What worked you over?" And where is your child? talk talk talk talk Watcher I'm sorry if you don't like my honest. Like flame she was constantly shifting. Swaying and moving, filled with spontaneous crackles. She grew and shrank, smoldered, smoked. Roared! Unpredictable, but constant in one thing. She was dangerous. He did not comment when she spoke. Merely giving a nod to show that he had heard and acknowledged her words. What more was to be said? He could make some sort of smart remark, but why waste the breath? He didn't much feel like jabbing at her for being beaten down by the world. If she inquired more into his thoughts, he would answer. Never one to truly try and hide anything. It wasn't his fault you never asked.
The ever shifting fire moved. She took notice of his distance and was soon closing the gap. He watched her with an ever calm expression. Ever watchful. She appeared innocent, but looks were so deceiving. She was a picture of an angel. Worn down and fallen, but still beautiful. But her angelic being stopped at the skin. She was a volatile being. Though somehow he didn't feel unsure. Yes, she was dangerous in every shape and form. But she was an honest danger in many ways. She was her. Aurelia. Pure and simple. For this he felt a degree of comfort. Not trust. For he never truly trusted another so easily. But he was not so unsettled by her that he felt the need to back off. Course he had never been the kind to back down. It was why he was so badly hurt in the first place. He just watched her come closer, his head turning to give her his full attention. Her eyes were alluring, tempting. He knew many would have fallen for this. But he remained unmoved. K'yarie had trained him well against the advances of a woman. She came ever closer. He remained, an unshaken statue. Though his regard for her was not cold. He was not calloused as she approached. Though many would easily overlook the subtle light in his eyes. He was seeing her not as an object to be won, or a thing to be feared. Caution, curiosity, and a spark of acceptance for who she was. It was rather amusing, how she was testing him. Baiting him to see if he would step back or try to take advantage. Then she spoke. And a ghost of a smile touched his lips. He did not reply immediately. he never did. Always one toe ponder what another said for a moment before speaking. Not because he was fretting about what would most impress the other. But because he wished to analyze the words and formulate his own, honest answer. Purely flavored with his character. "Did you desire to have another so close, until now?" He started, answering her question with a question of his own. Her mood had said otherwise. "You are not the kind to approach without caution, Aurelia." He let her name rolled off of his tongue. "You shift and change like a forest fire, with the heat and fury to match. One does not have to fear the fire to know to respect a being such as yourself. To know to give you space when you need it, and closeness when you desire." His gaze had drifted to the waters once more, before returning to meet her's. If she attacked him now he would be ready to react. Though now her fire would be a pesky thing to face if the rain did not prove to damper it and its heat. Water streamed down his body, flowing over muscle and flesh before mixing with the tinges of blood that leaked from reopened wounds. He was still battered from his own fight and truly hoped that she wouldn't ruin their reunion with an explosion of hostility. talk talk talk talk Watcher I'm sorry if you don't like my honest. Silence fell between them. They were close now, so very close. But inwardly they were both still so very distant. They held a general fondness for one another. Two beings who were at least willing to exist in the same space without being forced by circumstance. Though neither could claim any sort of feeling beyond this comfortableness It was very possible that they could grow to become…
friends. He never thought of falling in love. Even now the thought did not cross his mind. Then again, he did not think about forming bonds or friendships to begin with. Things like that tended to just happen. Like when he first encounter Vynter. He had not intended to give the lad one of his machines when they first laid eyes on one another. But something about the boy’s fascination with them had spurred him to do so. Nor had he imagined that he would ever encounter him again, let alone be healed by the boy when he was injured from his fight. Somehow they were forming a friendship. he had to admit he was becoming fond of the boy, though he certainly had his faults. His meeting with Aurelia had also been rather strange, unwanted and unpredictable. He had no intention of speaking with her and as a result she had charged him while ablaze. Then they set out together to find water and he ultimately ended up guarding her while she gave birth. It was such an absurd encounter that even he wasn’t quite sure it really happened. But here she was, standing before him. So it had to have. Funny how a creature who desired solitude ended up meeting so many people. It was as if someone was determined to push him out of his comfort zone, and have him meet everyone within the rift. Rain trickled down his neck, pooling at his shoulders before spilling over to stream down his legs. It was mildly annoying how wet everything was, but like with the ghost that continued to try and pester him, he ignored it. Instead he focused on Aurelia and the loaded questions she shot at him. He somehow found her question amusing and a chuckle finally escaped his normally reserved lips. It was a rich, robust sound that seemed to wrap those around him in its pleasantness. “Desires change constantly. What we desire one day or year can change in the next.” He mused, his gaze turning towards her. Their noses were even closer now, he could feel the warmth of her breath as it caressed his muzzle. “I can’t claim to know what you desire and it would be foolish of me to try. I do not know enough about you. I have only seen two pieces that make up the puzzle that forms who you are.” He stated, falling silent as he contemplates her other question. His face turned back to the lake. “As for me. It changes as well. Surviving, increasing my magical strength, to gaining more knowledge.” He looked up at the sky, adding under his breath. “To simply being dry.’’ He spoke louder. “Currently I wish to gain power to increase my defensive capabilities. After I accomplish that, I will see what I require next in order to become stronger and thrive within this world.” It was a loose plan of the most basic shape. But it allowed him a lot of wiggle room and adaptability should he encounter a new hurdle in life. He knew he wanted to increase his magical arsenal and was taking steps to doing this. This was enough of a path for him. A river was patient in its ways as it carved its route through the land. If things rose up in its way it either slowly wore them down, or found another way to continue on its path. He flowed through life in much of the same way. "How is your daughter fairing?" He finally asked, unsure if she even knew where she was at this point. Something told him that she hadn't been in the state of mind to keep track of where she was. talk talk talk talk Watcher I'm sorry if you don't like my honest.
