Zoeya
Fire burned through her leg as she looked up at the handsome colt. He rushed forward like he was going to help her, but stopped and stepped away. Her heart flinched at his rebuke. She blinked up at the grullo paint wishing he had helped her up. 'Maybe he is shy.' Ajax whispered the words in her mind trying to sooth her. Her heart twitched once more as the creamy mare smiled down at her. Her voice was warm and gentle as she spoke to her. Honey brown eyes gazed upon the creamy mare. She nodded her dual horned head in answer to her question. Her heart hammering wildly in her breast.

Of course she could heal herself, but she didn't want to weaken herself in front of an enemy. She had to be sure they would not attack her once she was weakened. As the winged mare gave her advice to help her leg, a smile graced her own features. She watched her a strange feeling trickling through her. "I'm Zoeya," Ajax stepped forward his right leg hitting the ground lightly. His long feathers trailed behind him and his husky head tilted slightly as he eyed the strange lady. "This is Ajax, he is a Grffin." She grinned lopsidedly feeling giddy for a reason unknown to her. "My leg will be fine in a moment." She closed her eyes and focused on her injured legs. Small lightning bolts shot from the end of her horns and flew to her afflicted limb. Warmth spread through her, burning at firs, before easing. Her eyes opened as she looked at the pretty lady again. She stretched her leg forward and nodded in satisfaction. Even though she was no exhausted she wasn't in pain.

A small yawn slipped from her white lips as she turned to see what the others were doing. The colt had wondered off and was staring at a tree. Ajax affirmed what she had been pondering. He had watched the tree move while Zoeya had spoken the mare. She watched Valkyrie walk towards the colt before following. There was something about being with others that seemed to make the girl stronger and bolder. She missed the words she had hissed to the odd winged colt. She stepped past them a warm gentle smile falling over her face. Her voice was calm and caring, "Hello Living Tree, I'm Zoeya. We aren't here to hurt you, we want to help." She paused her a moment her ears pricked slightly. "The Matron sent some of us, to help you. We are trying to heal the Rift." She relaxed her stance trying not to seem threatening.

Twin horns upon the crown of the well-coloured woman were shaped savagely - the perfect weapons -  thought she privately, though as Valkyrie examined them further with careful, clandestine interest, a queer volt of power leapt visibly from each sharp point.

She stumbled backwards, unmistakably startled, and watched incredulously as the energy honed in on the very leg that had just been examined. Blinking, uncertain yet whether this had all been intended, the pale-coated Daughter returned her wide eyes to the other. All the while, her acknowledgement of the - gruffalo was it? - had all but fallen to the ether; though it stood attentively by the shoulder of its master (presumably, it seemed to fit the label), one clawed foot ahead of the rest, the pallid girl seemed hardly to see it.

There was no room for further conversing, as the thick-skulled man was by then stepping to inspect the hedge by the wayside. The steps following caused one lean ear to swivel backwards, and she was careful to keep her snide remark under wraps.

The winged, horrid girl continued by towards the very same tree to which the colt’s attention had been focused; so too the largest of them all - the spare-parts monster - had travelled still further (curiously), and wedged him between the near sapling and the portal. Valkyrie wasn’t sure what was happening and quirked an eye as Zoeya began to speak. Perhaps she’d given the girl more credit than was owed. Slipping a sly glance by the auburn belly of the other, she couldn’t help the desire to make absolutely certain she was a she. It was difficult to tell, for lovely long flights were collected against those flanks; the ignorant Shieldmaiden grimaced and at last shifted the tip of her nose towards the rouse of voices.

Lunatics.

An exaggerated sigh nearly blew past her lips and she almost turned to leave, but at the mention of the Matron, it suddenly occurred to Valkyrie that those around her had been gathered previously on the beach (moments later she had plunged ridiculously into the icy waters of the great southern sea). Clamping her lips tightly, the Daughter took heed, stretching her gaze beyond Zoeya to where the timber stood still - like a post.

Ru barely acknowledged the presence of the others. In fact Vynter had received the warmest greeting, if one could call it that. His eyes fell on each horse that appeared, noting the strange actions of the little mare with wings on her head. Somehow he felt the distinct urge to roll his eyes the longer he was around her. Vynter certainly did not seem thrilled to see her. That was interesting. What had caused the normally stoic yearling to feel so strongly about someone? He was curious about what had transpired between his little not-quite-clone and the mare. But now was not the time to ask. Nor was he so big on words himself.

Silent as ever he only moved when Vynter did, his gaze watching Kisamoa for a moment before being attracted to the mare that had called herself Zoeya as she began speaking to the tree. He looked at the tree with a raised brow. Would that really help? His movements would place him in a position to block the tree should it try and flee away from Kis. If all went well it would run from him and head towards the land it belonged. But when did things ever go as planned? Certainly not often, as such he was ready for everything to go completely wrong. if they didn't, he'd be pleasantly surprised.

ooc: Ru just looks at everyone without really caring about speaking. he then followed Vynter before taking up a position opposite of Kis in order to block the tree from fleeing in the wrong direction.

the Rift
There were voices, and attention drawn to the tree despite it’s best efforts trying to hide. The Living Tree continued to tremble, it’s long branches covered with leaves twitching as though it were a frightened dog, it’s attention remaining on those up front to it, explaining that they were there to help it. The Tree couldn’t recall whether or not it should trust anything in this place – seeing as so many more of its brethren have gone missing and found to have all of their organs harvested. A shiver creeped down the Living Tree’s bark as it glanced to each one of them, not noticing Kisamoa or Ruwin.

After a few moments, when the Tree hoped that their attention had been drawn elsewhere, it lifted up it’s small roots slowly before bolting toward the Portal – nearly to collide with Kisamoa. As the God came into view, the Tree scrambled in an attempt to avoid the large creature, turning on its roots to head toward the other direction only to find another beast waiting. The Tree, again, nearly collided with Ruwin this time, before angling itself in a way that it might run back the way it came.

It needed to try its best to avoid the predators, and here the Tree was hopeful that it might not be all of these creature’s lunch.

Even more scared from being talked to, the Tree runs toward the Portal and finds Kisamoa, turns around and nearly runs into Ruwin, before angling itself back the way it came, but it hasn't fully ran off yet! Hopefully it stays going that direction!

It was an uncomfortable experience.

The tantalizing smell of power only grew stronger as the sapling came careening in Kisamoa's direction—a palpable aura of purity and strength washing against his tense body in agonizing waves. His resolve nearly broke, fanged mouth stretching impossibly wide as his hideous face turned towards it.

Just a bite—

But a bite from him would be devastating. A bite from him would snap the thing in half, leave a mess of magic and organs and bark and bits laying about, and the Matron would be pissed.

Whateverwhateverwhateverwhatever; his eyes rolled back as the Gods within kept on screaming about killing the elderly Loricatrunc too and drinking every last bit of magic from her body.

Fortunately for everyone, the sapling was terrified enough to run, but not too terrified to just blank out when almost colliding with the tall creature. It turned the way it had come, but instead of pursuing, Kisamoa remained in place, eyes closed, muscles tense. Slowly, his mouth closed. The thing, with all its temptation, had moved further away. The screeching in his head died down.

Kaos opened its eyes.

Slowly, and with a barely suppressed groan, he lifted one foot off the ground, extended the leg, and shifted his weight forward. Another followed. His body felt distant and heavy. In silence, the shadowy, shifting creature followed the gathering.

As soon as he had pinpointed the creature; it was like a floodgate that had been opened. Soon everyone was crowding around him, but the one that made him the most uncomfortable was Valkyrie. She moved with her usual saunter, and although he tried his hardest not to he couldn't stop himself from watching the way her hips swayed. He adverted his gaze to uncertainly meet hers, and it was then what he realized she had been trying to whisper something to him. Given the cocky smirk plastered across her dainty features, it was likely what she had to say wasn't entirely kind. Thankfully, he couldn't hear if it was or not; but her hot breath on his ear caused something to stir in him that he didn't understand.

Instinctively he pulled away from her, avoiding her gaze and once again trying to find the creature once again. Before much could be done the filly from before came forward; extremely forward and intrusive in the Tree's space. Although the electrical child obviously meant well, he could tell by the movement of her lips that she was talking loud and likely right in the plant's face. That wasn't a smart move in Vynter's opinion. The thing was terrified and felt trapped, and a creature twice its size that was loud with an overwhelming energy approaching it would not put it at ease. He sensed but didn't acknowledge Ruwin's approach, yet when he positioned himself in such a way to block a path the boy was once again disapproving.

Yes, they needed to herd the young thing to safety; but doing it by force didn't seem to be the way to do it for him. There had to be a better result. Yet before the yearling could do anything the tree was off sprinting, scrambling to get away from the terrifying creatures trying to surround it. And as it passed the one known as Kaos; the beast began to part its jaws ever so hungrily. Within seconds Vynter bolted forward, ears swinging towards the back of his head in warning and his body sprinting in an attempt to block the path between the tree and Kisamoa. Although he wasn't entirely graceful in his movements he had been certain with him, and he locked eyes with the man sternly with a look that gave a clear warning.

Whatever the beast's intentions were, the boy didn't trust it, and because his main goal right now was to protect this Tree and escort it safely home; he would hold off anyone that might hinder that. When he was certain Kisamoa would not pursue his thought further, the boy took off into the tree's direction at a soft trot; making it clear that he was following the tree, but not wanting to chase it.

Vynter's pissed that everyone is overcrowding the Tree, and once it runs he goes to follow. On the way he attempts to block the path of Kaos so he doesn't try and eat the thing.

Suddenly it bolted, the tree, lifting the very things that should have anchored it into existence, and with near-silent steps made haste in the direction of the Portal; yet the monster, pieced gruesomely together with various leftover body parts, was standing there peculiarly, causing the astonished Shieldmaiden to query whether he had perhaps swapped identities with the moving timber. Eyes examined him across the way, dodging between the excited bodies who seemed completely determined to stand in her way. “Move!” she wanted to scream at them, but there was no time, for the creature dressed in a veil of quivering emerald foliage turned, and fled the other way.

It almost looked as though it were frightened, though the young horse scorned the thought. The only thing it had to worry about was the mud-splashed man with an overactive salivary gland…

Valkyrie wasn’t at all sure what was happening - or why she should feel the need to contribute her time - so she stood as a spectator on the outer fringe of the gathering, entertaining herself with untold criticisms and retorts about the scene unfolding. The dove-like wings to either side of her porcelain-like skull retired to a more comfortable position, crisscrossing across the thickly purged mane from her crest. The hind-left hoof cocked casually, and she drew a long, pronounced breath.

The coloured woman who had fallen stood nearby with her gruffalo on hand. Valkyrie examined the peculiar beast more closely now that she had a brief moment to spare; although not as ugly, it was easily as oddly made as the looming hulk of - everything - now bearing down behind the group. There was a beak at the front, like a bird, winged, tailed and even ornately crested, but behind it followed most of the hind-end of a wolf and to the sheltered Daughter the combination made no logical sense. No matter the force of her blink, nor the angle she tilted her face, she couldn’t decide where one species finished and the other began; though, it had a strangely suave look about it which intrigued her vain heart.

A bustle of movement sliced through her focus.

It appeared that they (not she), had let the rogue wood-folk slip through their hooves, for it made haste towards space through which the murky shadow of the far-off forest loomed. “Oh dear…” she blurted, feigning an exaggerated display of dissatisfaction. “It escaped!” Of course, Valkyrie had no idea that herding it home was the intention, and should not the whole herd of misfits been oncoming behind it, she might have offered them aid by stepping a lean foreleg across its path, to trip it over and stop their stupid hurtle…

Oh look, the giant god was going to eat the tree. As the tree bolted towards Kis the mangled being opened his mouth as if to devour the youngling. But Ruwin did not move for it. No, what caused him to lift a hoof was when Vynter, seeing the same thing as he, faced down the massive being. But before any movements could be made the tree was running his way, nearly slamming into him before disappearing in the direction it had come.

He watched it go. Not really in the running mood as he sauntered over to Vynter. He was obviously upset by the turn of events, not caring for the way they had handled the tree. But what was to be done? The girl's intentions had been good, but she would undoubtedly spook the already frighten creature. Kisamoa had placed himself in a manner predicting this and Ruwin had moved to back him up. Now it was running back the way it had come and hopefully out of the portal's territory. Problem, somewhat solved. With any luck it would learn from this and avoid horses, especially Kisamoa, all together.

He followed Vynter as he trotted forth, saying nothing until he passed by Valkyrie. "That's the point." he uttered under his breath to her as he swept by. So long as the tree kept going in this general directing their mission would be complete. He did care that Vynter had become upset by the whole ordeal, but sulking would get them nowhere. What was done was done. "What matters is that it gets home safe." He said to the boy, easily matching his pace. He picked up his pace until he was cantering. "Can't ensure that if you're stuck clear back here." Was his last remark before his disappeared after the tree. He could still keep the thing in sight as it crashed through the forest, but he wasn't so hurried or frantic as the tree.

the Rift
It bolted, running as fast as it’s root-legs could take it. Faster and faster, it crashed through the underbrush, wrapping its branches tighter around its trunk in the hope that it wouldn’t snag any of its arms on the low hanging branches. But it was getting tired, the adrenaline from the encounter beginning to wear off. It heaved, the bark groaning beneath the deep inhale through its leaves, pausing in its run to glance back to the place it left.

For a moment, there was nothing there. The Tree began to relax, its leaves shaking visibly less than before. It didn’t last long, however, as it stood there trying to calm itself, he spotted them following it and decided that the best course of action was to return home, where its older family members might protect it better. For this Living Tree was still young, so small and fragile in comparison to its older siblings, and if something were to try and eat it, they’d be in for trouble with the larger trees nearby.

And so with that thought in mind, the Living Tree raced back home.

Success! The Living Tree runs home!

Zoeya
When the tree panicked and bolted she back tracked quickly away from the poor thing. Her heart twisted as she watched it's frantic running. Ajax stood at her side pressing against her socked leg. 'Not your fault.' The griffin whispered over and over in her mind. She could not be eased. She had helped in scaring the creature. It was her fault it felt it's life was at stake. He bowed her dual horned head. "I'm sorry." She spoke to no one in particular. After a few moments she lifted her head backup and watched the crowd, tree included. The colt looked as upset as she was sure she did. The other stallion was running at the tree and Valkyrie tried to trip the poor thing!

She raced at the mare ears slammed back and teeth bared. "Valkyrie stop it! Can't you see it's scared out of it's wits?!" She glared at the lady stopping inches from her face. Ajax growled at her side his own teeth bared, hackles, and feathers raised. With a great snort she turned and trotted after the others, Ajax following. She slowed as she reached the colt. "I'm sorry I scared it, I really didn't mean too..." Her voice dripped her remorse as she turned her sad liquid brown eyes on him. "I hope the tree, and you can forgive me?" Her eyes showed her hopefulness as she trotted at his side. She moved with him for a while hoping for an answer before pushing herself into a steady canter. Axaj held back for a couple moments longer eyeing the colt curiously. With a soft call that sounded like a mix between a yip and a coo he raced off after his bonded.
