Aurelia
Taivus continues to argue with Aurelia, who grows more agitated by the second. She starts off by practically saying agree to disagree, but then goes on to form an entire counterargument. Fucking hell. The mare would never understand that Aurelia wanted to do more than what her strengths would allow. She wanted to grow and morph into a horse capable of doing more. She didn't want to be a desolate freak anymore.

Taivus begins talking about souls and heartbeats, and Aurelia understands to some degree, but not really. It was an awkward half-comprehension that left her still in the mood to argue with the mare, but not enough to blatantly tell her you're wrong. Aurelia, as requested, humors the mare. She watches her lips move and words cascade out in ways that may simply never resonate with the hard-headed vixen.

She asks why the land would steal her magic only to return it. Aurelia scowls angrily, thinking about how the rift had taken her own magic. It hadn't seemed the land wanted to heal itself as much as it wanted to torture its inhabitants. She had seen the way it lingered around her as if stalking its prey. It didn't want rainbows and sunshine, it wanted to eat the horses' magic or mutate it in some tragic way. She remembers the story of the horse who farts every time they use their magic. What kind of fucking healing process was the Rift going through that needed to mutate horses' magic so they farted upon use? Still, she holds her tongue and listens.

Taivus states that the land will grow with its inhabitants. Yes, this is true to some degree, but still fundamentally does not agree with Aurelia's view of the land's sickness. The inhabitants aren't sick, they aren't healing with the land. The land is the only thing that is sick right now, so it needs our help. Once the land is cured of its ailments, then it can begin to grow and strengthen with the nation that lives on it. Expecting a sick land to grow directly proportionally with a group of strong, healthy horses was like expecting a very malnurished person to lift massive weights because those around him can- it wasn't going to work out.

Fire, the element of chaos, is capable of nurturing life and destroying it in equal parts, so which path would you choose?

The question is most likely not meant to offend the mare, but it completely does. Aurelia had spent her entire life being judged for her smaller mistakes that eventually everything began snowballing out of control. Small mistakes turned into big ones, usually involving fire. It was true, fire could be a beneficial thing, but that was only when it was heavily controlled and could be put out at a moment's notice. Aurelia had spent a lifetime trying to control her fire, but fire is an element that does not always want to be controlled. To simply say choose a path was a very cruel thing to say to the mare who had no more strength to control her fire. Taivus would never understand the struggle Aurelia does. You can't go wrong with healing. What's the worst that happens? You over-heal someone? Absolutely no destruction could be done from healing, but fire was a completely different ballgame. You could cause massive wildfires with fire. You could burn animals to death with fire. You could kill yourself with fire. The devastation that is caused by fire is immense. How could Taivus just say choose better?

Aurelia opens her mouth to say something, but Taivus begins walking away. She tries to call after her, but the mare is gone. She scrambles to where the pegasus's body had begun retreating. When she reaches the exit of the tunnel, Taivas is nowhere to be seen. She is simply greated with a pleasant breeze that contrasts greetly to the stuffiness of the tunnel. An agitated grumble leaves her throat and she begins mumbling angrily to no one in particular. She was angry she didn't get the last word, but she was even angrier she never got to give Taivus a demonstration on just how devastating fire could be.
oh, tell me, what's the matter?
