there are no markings on her country roads

Otem was empty. She was a book without a cover filled with immaculate pages that held no words. She was a meaningless metaphor, a paradigm shift that would never occur. Once upon a time she was meant to be somebody, but now she couldn't remember who that was.

But that didn't matter. She could make it up as she went

Drawn towards a pillar that seemed to be shattered with a streak of blue that coalesced into what appeared to be a cave at the bottom, Otem glided away from the Scint-River-that-was-no-more and towards this new aspect of the Rift previously undiscovered. Her burgundy and gold eyes remained fixed on the light as she flew, ignorant of any dangers or creatures that might have been nearby.

"What do you think, Pan?"  Otem asked her owl as she landed. Nothing about the cave struck horror into her bones as it perhaps should have, and without reason to the contrary, the autumn-touched child saw no real reason not to enter.

The bright sun made her coat look sleek and shiny as she walked as though she was covered in gloss. The light from the sun is her only source of warmth in the cold freeze that chills the filly's bones. The sand beneath the snow is almost hard and the white that coats it is nearly blinding. Nyu seems to blend in perfectly with this environment as her coat is a blinding and colorless white as well. If only it weren't for her pink eyes, she would be almost invisible at a glance. Nyu was honestly lost. She couldn't find anything around her that might tell her where she was because everything looked the same. She looked around desperately to find something, anything, that might tell her where she was but there was nothing but a colorless white and a large rock. Her eyes fixed on this strange rock that seemed to have evaded the snow that covered the Rift. "How..?" she spoke to herself. Then, it moved.

Nyu bent her knees and fell into the snow trying to hide from the live rock. She was still but try as she might, she couldn't hide her shivering body. She was only a tiny filly and hadn't even gotten her warm coat yet because she was not used to the Rift's strange seasons. She looked up again and a dark figure of a bird came down slowly to rest upon the rock. "No! Alive!" she spoke out loud. *The poor thing is gonna get eaten!* she thought. Nyu was worried and wanted to run for the bird and save it, but she was too cold. Her shivers tired her muscles and she found herself too weak to get up. She would need to sleep if she were to regain her strength. Becoming suddenly tired she began to shut her eyes. After all she was white right? It's not like any predator could see her in this mess. What she didn't take into consideration was the fact that this ice and snow was not going away any time soon. Almost as quickly as she had fallen down to hide, she then fell asleep.

Before the young owlet could contemplate Otem's answer, a sound entered into the bird's wide array of hearing. It was like a sigh in the middle of a long winter's night, or a petal falling from a flower into a stream. Someone there, Pandora murmered silently, her large golden eyes falling flatly upon Otem, wondering whether or not the filly would care. Normally the tribrid wouldnt' have, but it had been so long since she'd opened her mouth to speak to anyone other than her companion, that she let her defences slide slightly as she began to wandering towards where the pale girl lay.

Otem's bi-coloured gaze stared down at the filly for a moment, wondering any number of odd thoughts about her. Had she come here to die? Did she want to be left alone? Did she know anything about the Rift? She was so young looking ... was she even from Helovia? Was she from this place?

"I wouldn't sleep here, if I were you." Otem murmered, her voice caught half-way between her mother's typical academic cadence, and Otem's own youthful confidence.
