Sheba

The swim across the channel had been brief and uneventful—in short, as good as Sheba could have hoped for. Since seeing the island from the far shore, she had desired to go there. The possibility of a place to herself never lost its appeal, and the island’s isolation held too much potential to ignore for long. She had set out at low tide, wary of rip currents, but there had been none, and now she was clambering onto the shore with saltwater dripping from her coat. Minou stumbled after her, panting with exertion. The swim had not been so effortless for the little ocelot, but Sheba did not much care--especially now that his emotions were muted through their bond.

In high spirits from her easy journey, Sheba cast a glance around and headed for the shade of the trees. She did not venture into the thicker foliage quite yet, deciding instead to get her bearings before prancing into the jungle. Still, the place seemed harmless enough in the daylight, with only the lazy buzz of insects and the crashing of the waves on the sand to disturb the silence.

Having worked up an appetite after her excursion, she chanced some of the grass that grew along the edge of the treeline. She had stayed away from most everything else, but the most basic staple of her diet here had had no adverse effects thus far. If she was slowly poisoning herself, she supposed it was too late anyway.

Kuuma was not getting better. He has fed the young civet, he has done everything for her, but she still sits on his back curled up in pain. His black spots were rising it feels like every day. The boy was almost full grown; his large shoulders were finally starting to fill out. Tall horns reached to touch the sky. Long legs covered the land with ease. Traveling was not difficult for the boy to do. He was used to moving to get away from his father. He traveled to get away from everyone. The mahogany boy was charming, youthful, and everything above. He was just never good enough for his family. Maybe that is where he gets his drive from. There is always an internal struggle fighting deep within his soul, but he never allows that to show upon his face. Maybe he would have spoken to mother about it, but she is dead, she is gone. There is no one he can rely on other than Katua. Zubari was unsure if his friend has even made it to the rift. Maude was one of the only other people he shares a caring side with.

It did not take long for him to get to this shallow body of water. It was low tide right now, and the boy always looked at swimming as a good conditioner. It uses a lot of different muscles, and he could go for a nice workout. He tied the gold cloak around his neck and reached out to Kumma. She moved around a bit before digging her claws into his mane. Then the boy leaped into the water. His chocolate hide almost turned black with the dampened salt water. Gold piercing eyes kept a focus on the land in front of him. The swim was easy for his lanky body and legs. Muscles did not drag him down, and the cool water was refreshing. Finally, hooves touched the soft sand once again, and sturdy legs drug his body on the shore.

This place was so different, it was so pure compared to the other places. Salt water dripped from his damp hide as he started to venture around the island. The fruit here looked so sweet; the grass was lush. Kuuma was not too thrilled with the whole adventure, but she was too weak to do anything. Long legs moved his graceful body deeper into the magical land; until he saw someone standing in a small open patch of land. Her pelt was white and drying in the warm sun. His heavy skull tilted thinking she might not be real. This place was ill with magic. With caution he approached closer, striking gold eyes focused on her form. "Hello... " If the boy knew how to have a soft voice he would, but it was strong and filled with power. He tried to pull a smile on his mahogany face. It was difficult.. it was a lot harder than one would expect it to be. He could not be truly happy... He did not know how to be happy.
