Once you were away from the beach, you settled into sullen silence. You weren't at all sure what it was about anymore—surely you're not bitter about the fact that no one was able to get the damn siren off of you in the lake? And once up on the shore, Night Sky had cared, as she keeps caring, sticking close and throwing glances your way to make sure you haven't spontaneously died. You don't know what it is. Hope or not, you're tired and frustrated and feel like turning inside out, but if that's possible to do without killing yourself, you haven't found out how to do it. It's probably not. Halyven looms on the horizon, all ivory towers and broken spires, and you heave a sigh. Your coat is glossy black with sweat, mane plastered to your stocky neck. Did this whole episode have to take place under the blasting heat of the sun? Couldn't they have done this in winter? Nothing satisfies you today, and the moment you make it to the outer rim of the city, you stick to the shadows when offered. "Is there any sort of thing that lives in Halyven?" You blink a little. You hadn't thought of that. "No idea," you say once it's obvious that Dragon Man isn't going to break his silence. The big stallion simply shrugs, and so, you turn to Night Sky instead. She seems to know her way around the Rift; maybe she knows if Halyven houses any monsters. RE: [SWP] It comes in waves - Otem - 01-31-2018
Tagging K'yarie so you know we're here! RE: [SWP] It comes in waves - K'yarie - 02-01-2018 K'yarie She had never actually been to the ruined city before. It was a very new part of her home, arriving with the Helovians. So when the others looked to her to see if she knew anything about the creatures here, she remained silent for a moment. "There are quite a few dangerous creatures that inhabit the surrounding land. I would not be surprised in some have migrated into the city, though some are rather large. The Cobravi, Desert Walkers, and Nighura to name a few predators. Though some may find it difficult to navigate the streets of this city. Best be on our guard."
Though she could have shown off her vast knowledge of her home, she did not. Nor did she hold a boastful tone while sharing what she knew. These were serious predators and if they ran into any of them they would be in big trouble. She was surprised to hear Otem inside her head, her ears shooting upwards. It was apparent that the girl was unaware that she was sharing her thoughts with all of them. A small smile of amusement touched her lips, and she could not help but let out a light chuckle. Again the dragon horse remained silent and K'yarie also wondered if he was mute as she walked beside Waker. Her head cocked as Otem spoke of the dark wall. No one had actually attempted to enter those lands beyond the dark before. At least not anyone she had ever met. It perked her interest. "Perhaps with the spreading of the light the darkness will begin to dissipate and the lands beyond will be revealed." She mused. talk talk talk talk Fear not this Night. Unlike what many of the group that gathered had thought, there was no creature here to greet, fight, bicker, or spend time with. All that remained were the dilapidated buildings and crumbling spires whose ivory walls baked under Scorch’s sun. There wasn’t even a feeling associated with it, instead it was simply just as it always had been. The same feeling of nothing, the quiet remnants of what a bustling city may have been. But there is a place to put the Hope it requires – perhaps it can be found by a bit of exploring? Group one for Halyven! There’s no creatures here to fight or talk to. Perhaps with exploring you might be able to find out where to put the hope to spread it? * Each round is 48 hours (give or take), and has no posting order. If you miss a round, don't worry - just post when you have a chance to! The round is open until Rift Presence posts again. * New characters are always welcome to join the plot * If you find the pace too high, let us know, and we'll slow down! * Posts are encouraged to be 400 words or less. Night Sky offers up what she knows of the land, but the names mean little to you. You recognize the walkers, though; perhaps relatives of the forest walkers Kiada and Rixen had gone to? It doesn't seem unreasonable, and the Matron had warned them of the dangers of those creatures. The idea of their desert cousins lurking around the next corner isn't soothing. Then Otem's voice bombards your mind, and your blue-rimmed ears sharply flit forward. The sarcasm stings, and your steps falter for a moment. Perhaps the Hope was not a cure-all, and you're not faulty for not being a cheerful ballon—because here's Otem, her doubts held close but violently, accidentally broadcast. "You can't deny that it helped the lake, and the Metus," you offer quietly, shifting your wings against your sides. You're not sure what to do with the revelation that Otem is doubting. Is she right to? Should you, too? But if you do, what else do you have? What else will you do? You blow out a sigh and turn your head away, hooves hitting the pale flagstones with dull thuds. "Huh," you sort of say, sort of breathe, when talk turns to the shadowy veils. Instinct had screamed at you to stay the fuck away, so you had, but you're not surprised to hear that Otem tried to get through. She just, sort of seems like that—stubborn and relentless and curious. "What makes you think you can go beyond the shadows, anyway?" you ask, sounding a bit distracted and tired as you make it down another crumbled lane. RE: [SWP] It comes in waves - K'yarie - 02-11-2018 K'yarie She spoke of the possible creatures native to these lands round about them, but saw no signs of any of them. After the sirens and the metus she had little problem with not encountering anything. But what would they share their light with? Her head titled as Waker responded to Otem's metal words, than proceeded to comment on the shadow wall. "It has not always been there. Though I don't know of anyone that has tried to enter it." She comment softly. "The darkness has devoured much of the lands, blocking them from us. When the Helovians came, that wall receded and new lands appeared. I assume they were from Helovia."
She was not quite old enough to know of the glory that was once the rift, but she had seen her fair share of degradation and rot that was falling upon her home. Seen some lands swallowed by that wall, then later returned to them as the Helovians came into her homeland. "In spreading this light, we may be able to push it back further and open up new, and old territories." She looked to her glowing orb. Was it really so powerful? Hope was indeed a strong thing, but was this ball really the embodiment of hope? Even now, when she had seen the changes happening in her home, she was not entirely without doubt. It was only Otem that unknowing voiced her own inner thoughts. Her gaze drifted back to the city, lighting upon the spire. "Perhaps we should start there?" She motioned to the towering structure. "Then fan our search outward as we look for something, or someplace that requires or light." talk talk talk talk Fear not this Night. RE: [SWP] It comes in waves - Vynter - 02-14-2018 Fenyx was likely going to murder him. Not literally, but figuratively; because he was the only family she had left and she wouldn't feel the same without him around. But she would be pissed about the fact that he was wandering again without her. He didn't mean to, it was often an accident. Something would catch his eye and he would follow it, wondering how it worked or where it was going. Today's adventure involved Leroy wandering off somewhere different. Leroy was a new addition to their little trio; a small mechanical spider golem Ruwin had given the boy when they had first met.
Vynter had been utterly fascinated with the small creatures that flocked the buckskin, and it seemed as a token of appreciation the man had insisted he keep one. So Vynter did. And he named him Leroy. Although Leroy usually stuck close to him, either resting on a tree or in his mane, the spider had decided that today he was going somewhere else. This obviously meant the grullo had to follow. So despite the sweltering heat bearing down upon his coat and defective wing; the colt managed to glide his way further along the plains until he grew close to a city of white. It was quiet, desolate and breaking into nothing. The once beautiful structures were dull and cracked, the dry heat bleaching them a washed out hue. Yet Vynter paid no mind, because his sights were set on Leroy who was scuttling ahead of him. It wasn't long before the colt's ears were subconsciously hearing voices, his nose picking up scents familiar and not, but being so focused on his companion left him blind to everything else. It was only when a sudden shadow loomed over the ground and his head bumped into a large flank did the boy finally look up to find Roscorro in front of him. A glimmer of recognition appeared in his eyes, but it was the only emotion he gave away as he touched his nose to the dragon's shoulder in greeting. It was only then did he take note of the other companions Rosco had around him, all unique in their own way. But what cause his eye were the bright orbs pulsating around a dark mare who glimmered like starlight. The man was no longer his main target, and the colt was skittering on the forming ice beneath his hooves as he made his way over to her. Attempting to keep himself balanced with each step, he finally halted at her side and looked her up and down quietly. After what felt like decades of intense staring at this mare and her glowing orbs of light, the boy finally spoke;"Bright." Don't worry he'll eventually say hi to everyone else he just likes shiny things xD |
