Fighting
  1. Fighting may occur between two characters anywhere and anytime in the Rift. (Newcomers may not fight.)
  2. Any age may fight; however, less than 2 years of age will have 20 points subtracted from their rubric.
  3. Please see below for further information about the 3 different fight types in the Rift.
  4. Fights are dictated by dice rolls:
    • A d20 is rolled per post for both characters. (Please see Prowess page for more information about number of dice).
    • If the poster’s d20 roll is greater than opponent's d20, then the action in their post is successful.
    • If the poster’s d20 roll is less than or equal to opponent's d20, then the action in their post is not successful.
    • A roll of d20=1 (by poster) is a critical miss, causing an additional d10 to be rolled and subtracted from the poster's total in rubric.
    • A roll of d20=20 (by poster) is a critical hit, causing an additional d10 to be rolled and added to the poster.
  5. Items and Magic:
    • Items and magic may be used in fights. However, the item/magic must be used ICly in the post for it affect the dice.
    • A character may use 1 offensive or defensive item/magic (specified at time of post both ICly and in OOC notes). This will cause a d4 to be rolled in addition to the d20.
    • Offensive items/magic will subtract the d4 roll from the opponent’s d20 roll.
    • Defensive items/magic will add the d4 roll to the poster’s d20 roll.
  6. The winner of a fight is determined by the Rubric:
    • At the end of the fight, a character’s rolls (d20, d10, and d4) are summed.
    • 5 point deduction per instance of powerplaying
    • 5 point deduction per post over word count
    • 20 point deduction if character is <2 years old
    • The character with highest numerical value wins the fight.
  7. A character may cede a fight by passing out/collapsing/becoming submissive at any point in the fight.
  8. Rift Force for fighting is automatically added by admin (you do not need to claim it).
  9. To start a fight, post the thread link in the Prowess log found in Maintenance.
    • Visit User CP. Dice will be automatically rolled per post once a thread ID is entered, so do not do this until right before the first post with actual fighting.

Challenge
  1. A Challenge is a formal fight between characters where the challenging party seeks to gain something from their opponent.

    • Only one 'thing' may be challenged for at a time.
    • Things that may be challenged for: herd ranks, items, pride, etc. (If you are uncertain if what you plan to challenge for is allowed, please PM and admin and ask!)
  2. A character/player on 'Away' or Inactive may not be challenged.
    • If a character goes on 'Away' during a Challenge, then they have 1 week of "Away" grace time before it defaults.
  3. A character must wait 1 week after completing a Challenge before entering into another one. (There is no ‘grace period’ necessary between other fight types.)

Sample Fight
Barbara vs Tom

BEGIN FIGHT:

Post #1: Barbara runs toward Tom and wheels suddenly, kicking out towards his shoulder.
Dice Rolls #1:
Barbara: d20 = 15
Tom: d20 = 14
15>14, so the attack hits.

Post #2: Tom is surprised by the strength of Barbara's kick. He grunts as it connects and swings his own body around to return the favor, swinging his great legs up towards her barrel.
Dice Rolls #2:
Tom: d20 = 20
CRITICAL HIT: d10=5
Tom's Critical Hit: 20 + 5 = 25
Barbara: d20 = 7
25>7, so the attack hits.

Post #3: Barbara staggers and nearly falls from the severe injury inflicted by Tom, deciding to rely on her hooves this turn to put distance between them. Her will pulls the enchanted blade from its sheath, and then she whispers a word, her attention locked on the stallion. The blade shoots towards him, aiming for his heart.
Dice Rolls #3:
Barbara: d20 = 5
Barbara's Item: d4 = 3
Barabra + Offensive Item = 5 + 3 = 8
Tom: d20 = 16
8<16, so the attack misses.

Post #4: Tom sees the blade just in time and dodges, pulling up his glass shield just in case. He then leaps towards Barbara in an attempt to barrel into her smaller body.
Dice Rolls #3:
Tom: d20 = 11
Tom's Defensive Item: d4 = 4
Barbara: d20 = 18
Barbara – Defensive Item = 18-4 = 14
11<14, so the attack misses.

Post #5: Barbara is ready for him and jumps to the side, then charges him with her head lowered and her horns ready to stab him.
Dice Rolls #5:
Barbara: d20 = 1
CRITICAL MISS: d10 = 4
Tom: d20 = 17
1<17, so the attack misses.

Post #6:Tom laughs at the silly girl’s attempts to stab him and kicks out at her.
Dice Rolls #6:
Tom: d20 = 14
Barbara: d20 = 14
14=14, so the attack misses

END FIGHT

Rubric:
Barbara: 15+7+8+14+1-4+14 = 55
Tom: 14+25+16+11+17+14 = 97
No penalties.

TOM WINS !

    Note:
  • d20 = 20-sided die
  • d10 = 10-sided die
  • d4 = 4-sided die
