IMMORTALITY NOTES::: Bates can only be killed if all four of his eyes are removed and burnt. Otherwise he will live forever.
Born to the Rift his appearance fits right at home in these dark lands. Standing at 18HH his legs are long and slender, his body lean but not overly muscular. Bates holds himself tall and straight. Every movement is calculated and well placed, he moves like a well oiled machine.
Bates' coat is a light dappled grey, a bloody shoulder marking on his right shoulder is the only thing disrupting his dappled coat. The stallion's mane is snow white and is extremely long however most of his mane is pulled into a sloppy bun behind his ears leaving the rest to flow freely on either side of his neck, and his tail (snow white) flows freely, just barely touching the ground. Sprouting from his forehead is a crimson glass-like horn that is jagged and broken halfway up leaving sharp jagged edges. Bates, being a native to the Rift sports his own share of mutations, his mouth is split up both sides up his cheeks giving a good view of his jagged teeth and long snake-like tongue. Instead of one pair of eyes Bates sports two pairs, both lilac in color and he wares a fine pair of wireframe glasses.
Apathetic:///: Showing no or little emotion / not interested
If whatever happening does not benefit or impact Bates in some way he could care less about what was happening. It would have to be something very entertaining or interesting for Bates to care and it not be about him, even then his attention wouldn't be caught for long and he would likely be annoyed the entire time. Bates seems to always have a nuetral look on his face in any situation like nothing can affect him, possibly if he was dying or someone was getting hurt or dying he would crack a smile but only then. It seems the only emotions he shows circle around anger. Bates has other emotions, he gets sad feels fear and etc. he just resents those feelings and keeps them inside, careful not to show them on the outside.
Critical:///: Inclined to find fault or to judge with severity...Demanding:///: requiring more than is generally felt by others...Severe:///: harsh ; unnecessarily extreme ; serious or stern
Bates, almost like a hawk, likes to look for wrong or imperfect things on others just to tear them down and make them feel terrible and he wont let you forget those faults. Bates likes to make others do more than is necessary if he can , abuse whatever power he has over that person, and make them do awful things just for his amusement.
Authoritarian:///: Having an air of authority...Eloquent:///: Having or exercising the power of fluent, forceful, or appropriate speech
Bates is used to taking charge and hasn't let down that habit, in any situation he is in Bates likes to take charge and if he can't 'officially' take charge then he will do it behind the leaders back. If he cannot do that then Bates will purposely disobey and go off on his own to do his own thing and be his own boss. Bates is excellent at placing words together to form a perfect sentence that will deal the final blow or talk his way into anything. He likes to think it goes well with his authoritarianism.
Obdurate:///: Unmoved by pity or tender feelings
Sadness or a heartfelt story of all you've been through and why you are the way you are wont get you shit with Bates. You'd have better luck talking to a boulder because he simply doesn't care and can find no reason to, try someone else,
Righteous:///Believing ones-self to be morally right and just...Vindictive:///: Revengeful, unforgiving: desiring to harm others and to see others suffer
Bates' only reason to live is for revenge against his brother and the Helovians he hates them both and wants to see basically everyone dead. The stallion also loves pain and likes seeing horses get hurt and he likes to hurt them, all part of his revenge process, after it's over then maybe he'll lay somewhere and die. How does he get through the day? Bates truly believes what he's doing is right and he's avenging his fallen gods and his father.
Bates was born when the gods ruled the Rift, yes he is very old, Bates has lived a very long time. At this time the Rift was peaceful, his family ruled over a small land and lead a good sized loyal group. Bates was an only child and spent much of his time alone. From the castle's windows he would watch his father train the new soldiers, training them until they collapse from exhaustion, then beating them until they got up again. He made them strong. Bates looked up to him.
Both his parents were very cold and rather unloving of their son, they saw him as something to mold, to make into a war machine. One day Bates had broken one of his mother's vases and had just left it there, terrified of what might happen. That night at dinner all was silent, Bates sat opposite of his parents at the long stone table. Nothing was said but later that night Bates' bedroom door opened to reveal his father who only said "come," Bates followed. Under the cover of night they travelled, Bates (only a yearling) struggled to keep up with his father and would trip and cut himself on jagged rocks often, no matter how much he cried out his father never stopped or helped him. Once deep in the forest Bates' father left him to find his own way back, punishment.
It took Bates four days to find his way back. He was covered in cuts and dirt and was made to walk past the soldiers to enter the castle, they laughed and snickered at the prince. Bates wasn't greeted when he returned his mother only told him to wash himself...it was humiliating to her for Bates to look like that. Two years later his brother was born, by this time the personality Bates has now was in development, but his brother was born two times worse. At age four Bates' training began and so did his brother's who was only a yearling.
Their training was extremely harsh and severe, and while the boys grew Bates' brother grew to despise their father, while Bates' admiration for their tyrant father only grew. As adults the brothers grew to resent each other because Bates was to be king next, little did Bates and his father know, Bates' brother was gathering rebels within his father's guard. When the gods fell his brother made his move. The family was lounging in the throne room when the door burst open and in came half of the king's army. Who was leading them you might ask? Bates' brother.
"What is the meaning of this?" his mother stood from her throne and marched towards her second son, who smirked "oh mother you always were such a demanding whore" he had said and slit her throat. He stepped through her blood leaving a trail behind him as he made his way to the King, who sat stone still at his throne. They stood there staring at each other as the guards restrained Bates who was yelling and spitting at his brother, cursing his name. Bates will never forget what his brother said to him next; "it is terrible...but you must watch." The second son to the king decapitated the king, kicked his body off the throne and sat down, covered in blood.
Bates was forced to the dungeon where he stayed for a year, half starved and tortured, but his brother visited every day. The new king offered him a choice everyday join him and become his right hand or rot in the dungeon. It took a year, a year to break and he become his brother's general. For years he was a ruthless killer for his brother killing women and children, innocent with the guilty, Bates was a monster just like his brother. And he didn't care. It was the final war when the last of the gods was slain that Bates gained something important.
On the battlefield lay one of the gods dying but instead of helping Bates drank the gods blood straight from the vein. Bates became immortal. After the gods died Bates' brother became very irrational, showing symptoms of mental illness, and he was paranoid that his soldiers were out to kill him. Bates left instead of helping his brother through what he was a victim of. The stallion left and never turned back.
A few years later Bates did return however with the thought of taking the crown but what he found would seal a promise for Bates. Every single horse living or working for the castle was dead all in different ways. However it was evident all were in some degree murder. Bates' brother was missing and he knew, he knew his brother was to blame. That day Bates swore to take revenge for the power he didn't get and for his parents and gods, he would kill every single helovian. His brother too.
